About Us
Who are we?
We’re all different and we’re all the same. We’re different because we come from a variety of backgrounds and life stages, but we share life’s difficulties and joys in the same way that all humans do. We’re different in how we each contribute to church life but the one thing that unites us all is Jesus’ love for us, our love for Him, and our desire to follow Him as our saviour.
Our church is made up of Christians old and new, from those who are just starting out on the great adventure of faith in Jesus to those who were baptised many years ago. Together we face life secure in the knowledge of God’s truth, peace and hope. We are a friendly bunch and we love to meet new people. Whether you’re a committed Christian or you’re just dipping your toe in the water of Christianity, you’re very welcome to join us.
How our church began
It all began in a garage nearly 100 years ago. A lady called Amy Rea, who lived in the White City (Reservoir Road), was concerned that children in the area should hear the good news about Jesus and so she made plans to start a new Sunday School.
Amy managed to get the use of a wooden garage in Selwyn Road and in 1928, 24 children met for the first Sunday School meeting. Week by week more and more children began attending and by the time the numbers reached 80 it had become very clear that they needed a bigger place to meet!
By 1929 a piece of land had been bought on Selwyn Road and a new building was put up. This was to be used not only for the Sunday School but also for a new church to meet. Nearly 100 years later Trinity Baptist Church still meet on that same site.
We are really thankful to have been part of the White City for so long and love the relationships we have formed with people and groups living and working in this community.
